Microsoft Government Community Cloud is built on the commercial Azure network with logical separation, US data residency, and FedRAMP Moderate authorization. Right-sized for US government agencies that don't require the dedicated infrastructure of GCC High.

Eligibility: Available to US federal, state, local, and tribal government entities. Requires government domain validation.

GCC High

Annual Only

Azure Government GCC High runs on physically separated infrastructure with US-person-only personnel, government-level background checks, and continuous FedRAMP High monitoring. Recommended for defense contractors, federal agencies, FFRDCs, and any organization handling CUI Specified, ITAR/EAR data, or pursuing CMMC Level 2 or Level 3.

Eligibility: For organizations handling CUI, ITAR/EAR-controlled data, DFARS 7012 covered defense information, or pursuing CMMC Level 2+. Microsoft validates eligibility via its US Gov intake; DCSA sponsorship (for classified / IL6 environments) and an active defense contract are not required.

GCON

Annual Only

Government Community On-premises (GCON) supports US government agencies that maintain on-premises or hybrid infrastructure alongside cloud workloads. A niche tier, most agencies should consider GCC or GCC High instead unless on-premises requirements are non-negotiable.
